Week Four Response, 36-57

In his book, Rush writes that film enabled artists the ability to swiftly manipulate and transition the audiences perspective over time. I'm assuming that the concept of perspective manipulation has existed long before the creation of film. But film provides artists with the ability to directly control the audiences viewing height, angle, motion, and length of time in which something may be observed. While film can have the potential to be rather restricting, it also can also be freeing. For instance, photos allow us visual faraway places at a singular point in time, while film provides us with elements of time progression, enhancing our immersion. I would think that film has given artists the ability to manipulate time at their discretion.

  1. Chancelor, you're right, I think that film is unique in the sense that it can show the progression of time. I really like how you brought up how this differs from photography and immerses us even more in the art piece.

  2. I totally agree with you. The difference between what photos do, in contrast to what film do, in relation to how time is being perceived, is really some to consider, in this day in age, with the advancement of both tools.
